In partnership with TapirVet, Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary (AWS; Dominical, Puntarenas), and International Animal Rescue (IAR; Nosara, Guanacaste), this extended internship offers a unique, hands-on experience bridging clinical wildlife care and in-situ conservation.
Interns will spend a minimum of three weeks at one of the wildlife rescue centers, gaining practical skills in animal handling, medical treatments, and rehabilitation protocols in a clinical setting. They will then transition to a minimum of three weeks with the TapirVet Project, engaging directly in field-based conservation and health monitoring of tapirs and other wildlife species in natural habitats.
This integrated experience is designed to strengthen technical competencies in veterinary and conservation practices while fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges and solutions in wildlife health and coexistence.
